Have you ever chosen an organic, ultra-pure, maybe even certified cream, only to end up with burning, stinging skin or small patches of redness anyway?
We often blame our skin, calling it “difficult.” But the truth is something else entirely — and it’s hidden in an invisible guest that exists within nature itself: Nickel.
In this article, we want to clarify what it really means to choose safe cosmetics and why, at Nooda, we decided not to settle for the word “natural,” but instead to test every single batch for Nickel.
THE PARADOX OF NATURE: WHY IS NICKEL EVERYWHERE?
Let’s start with a fact that very few brands talk about: Nickel is not an ingredient. No one intentionally adds it to a formula. It’s a heavy metal naturally present in soil, water, and air.
Because plants draw nutrients from the earth, they can also absorb traces of this metal. So paradoxically, the more a cosmetic product is packed with raw, unregulated botanical extracts, the higher the risk that it may contain Nickel residues.
That’s why “natural skincare” alone is not a guarantee for people who suffer from contact dermatitis or have ultra-reactive skin.
“NICKEL FREE” OR “NICKEL TESTED”? DON’T BE MISLED
There’s a lot of confusion around labels. Let’s clear it up:
Nickel Free: Technically, this claim shouldn’t really exist. Nickel is a naturally ubiquitous element; achieving absolute zero in chemistry is almost impossible. Be cautious of brands that promise it.
Nickel Tested: This is the only truly reliable claim. It means the company has sent product samples to an external laboratory to analyze the amount of Nickel present.
At Nooda, every production batch is Nickel Tested < 1ppm.
What does “1 ppm” mean? It means one part per million. This is the safety threshold recommended by dermatologists: below this limit, even the most sensitive and allergy-prone skin is unlikely to trigger reactions.
THE NOODA VISION: BOTANICAL SKINTECH FOR YOUR SAFETY
For us, being Nickel Tested is not just a badge printed on packaging. It’s a core part of our Botanical Skintech philosophy.
Choosing Nooda means choosing a nature refined and safeguarded by science. We don’t simply use plants; we carefully select and monitor them so their potency remains intact while the risks linked to the soil are minimized.
We removed water (often a source of impurities and bacteria), eliminated synthetic fragrances, and test every batch for Nickel because we believe beauty should never compromise health.
HOW TO TELL IF YOUR SKINCARE IS BETRAYING YOU
If, after applying your usual routine, you experience:
- A widespread sensation of heat on the face.
- Localized itching.
- Small bumps, irritation, or flaking.
You may not be “allergic to the cream” itself, but reacting to traces of Nickel contained within it.
Switching to rigorously tested products is the first act of care you can offer your skin barrier.
The truth is simple: your skin deserves to know what it’s wearing.
